God's Songbird

Alma Taylor-Sherman born and raised in a small town, on her families farm in Bradley, Arkansas, population of 706. 

Her parents, LB and Mary Taylor were the best parents any person could ever have.  They reared a "Dozen" children, her parents would say.  Alma is number 10 of the 12 children.  Her parents were very hardworking people and they in turn taught them to be very hardworking and faithful to whatever they are committed to. Life on the farm was a life changing experience.  After a hard days work, they would come home for supper and sit by the wood burning heater before settling for bed.  Her dad would start singing one of his favorite songs, "Just A Hut, will do by the banks of the Jordan fare, My friend will you be my neighbor over there, no rent will come due and our home will not be sold.  No more notes to pay and we'll live forever, and a carolin we'll go".  Soon after her father would start to sing, her mother would join in and before the song was over, everyone in the room, her sisters and brothers would have joined in for a very special, uplifting, harmonic sound, filling the house.  There were many nights, they would just sing songs as they ended their day.  Very memorable times for her, that was what family was all about, blending in to create something special. 

Most of her siblings sang in their church choir.  It was required whether you wanted to or not.  She remember going to a church in Louisiana and the choir sang "God Is", it inspired her to continue to develop her singing in the choir and their school's talent shows.  She even got to sing at her high school's football games.  Her brother Greg invited her to come back home after she graduated from BHS and sing at his High School Prom. She thought her life was over based on the looks she got when she started singing the songs she was given to perform.  The song list was not approved by the High School Officials.   

After leaving her hometown, she spent the next 18 years of her life living in Los Angeles, California.  While living in LA, she adventured into Runway Modeling and performed in a Stage Play "God's Trombones" directed by Beverly Johnson. She sand backup for Stevie Wonder for His radio station KJLH. She became an active member of Tabernacle B.C. and Del Aire B.C.  While at Tabernacle and Del Aire, she song in the choir and became the directed for the youth choir.  She was honored to had received the opportunities to sing at different churches all throughout Los Angeles.  On Tuesday nights, she would go to sing on stage Amateur Night at Marla's Memory Lane on MLK Blvd.  That wasn't  paying any bills, so she got a job at the Beverly Hills Post Office in 1989 and still serving the United Stated Post Office for the last 32 years.  She is currently Post Master of Midland Ga. 

She made her move to the great State of Georgia in 2000, where she met the love of her life.  A gifted man of God, whom she married, Pastor Michael W. Sherman Sr. of Wynnton Hill Baptist Church in Columbus, GA.  She is the proud mother of 5 young men, Bobby, Michael Jr , Ryan, Kevin, and TJ (Taylor), and 3 grandsons. 

God has given her a creative mind.  Alma has written and performed plays at their church: "Just for ME", The Best part of Christmas, The Heart of Christmas, This Was your Life, Snow White and the Seven Sins, just to name a few.  Tyler Perry was her inspiration.   

Her current project has been a dream for many years, and now it is here.  This Album, "Lord, I'm Ready.  The album came about after many years of doubt and fear of failing or succeeding and feeling inadequate in comparison to other singers.  Her husband, sons, and friends would continue encouraging her to move forward with her dream.  She would write down words on paper, but they never came to life. Marcus, the producer of this album would say, "I'm waiting on you First Lady," and yet another year passes. 

Early in March of 2022, she began to seek God for direction and holding firm to promises God had given her.  As she prayed one night in bed, she completely surrendered and said 'Lord I'm Ready to do this, I will not allow fear and doubt to overshadow me any longer, I'm letting go of all those things that is keeping me from moving forward".  Once she made that declaration to Him, every night into the early mornings as she slept, God downloaded lyrics and rhythms into her head.  As she awakes, she would sing and record what she heard on her phone.  She did this until she had written all the songs on her debut Album.  She would go home from work and start piecing it together, with a small keyboard her sister Barbara gave her from a yard sale.  She said "I do not know how to play the piano, but I do know how to finger the notes that I heard. 

"Lord, I'm Ready are songs written to help encourage and inspire us to look to the hills, where our help comes from and see GOD.  To call on the name of Jesus, when you've been dealing with circumstances we cant get out of and when times are good.  Jesus will never leave you or forsake us. We must keep His name before us in all we do.

 "The intro song, "Lord I'M Ready" is a response to our commission God instructed each of us in Matthew, : Go Ye Therefore...., "Yes, Lord, I'm Ready.  Ready to do, ready to say, ready to go where you will have me to go". 

The Album encourages us to recognize that in the presence of the King, there is Liberty, Joy, Happiness, Deliverance, and Salvation.  The Song, LET IT GO, tells her story of how life issues overshadowed her, but I still went to church, and one Sunday at church, Pastor Nim Russell stated, God said if you come to the altar and Cast everything you have issue with on Him and He will take them from you. That day I was ready for a change, I believed God would do just that, and I Let GO of everything and left with my mind and direction redirected.

After you have praised him for all he's done for us, then we must worship Him in spirit and in truth. :Lord I Worship You.
